Our campaigns

 Universal Credit

Our exciting new project focuses on research and campaigning in relation to Universal Credit.  This new project, sponsored by The Trust for London for two years, aims to improve policies and practices in relation to UC to improve people’s lives.

Universal Credit began to be implemented in Sutton in May 2016 and nationally has followed a ‘test and learn approach’. Whilst this incremental approach to implementation has resulted in a number of significant improvements there are still substantial problems to address which impact on the everyday lives of the people of Sutton – our clients.

Working alongside existing Citizens Advice services such as ‘Help to Claim’ and Advisor services and our local statutory partners and voluntary organisations in Sutton this project seeks to:

  • identify key issues experienced by clients or client groups in respect of claiming UC
  • raise awareness of key UC issues with local stakeholders and partners through briefings and workshops
  • contribute to the London evidence base for UC, National CA Research & Campaigns and respond to national DWP and Social Security inquires

If you are experiencing difficulties in respect of claiming and managing on universal credit our specialist staff and volunteers can help you. See Get Advice.

The Citizens Advice website has details of campaigns and policy research that we've contributed to in association with our national office.
